Spread the Word
Once you and your sweetie decide to allow or forgo having little ones at the wedding, don’t be afraid to communicate to friends and family early. Formal “etiquette” has come along way from previous generations – many will say to not include anything regarding this issue on the printed invites or RSVP’s but don’t feel bad – I mean, after all, it is your wedding. With that said, keep it fun and light-hearted. If you decide to dodge the children dilemma, consider printing something like “While we love the little ones, this is an adult only affair”. Or if there’s only a few kids on the invite list, there’s nothing wrong giving those few families a simple heads up verbally – always remember that it’s best to keep it simple… and if you find yourself getting stressed, take a step back, breathe deep and make the best decision for you two!

Provide Options
If you want to steer clear of formally dictating whether kids are allowed or not, there’s always the option to leave it up to the parents and offer help. What do we mean? Luckily almost every hotel these days offers or works with a trusted and certified team of sitters. This is a wonderful solution and the guests with kiddos will love you for the suggestion! You can either provide this service complimentary and sometimes even have the sitters on-site if the venue is big enough or provide a list of recommendations for guests to personally reach out themselves. I mean, what parent doesn’t want a little date night to relax and enjoy your insanely awesome wedding?!

Rally the Troops
So you finally come to the decision to keep your wedding open for little ones and kid-friendly…now what? Where are they supposed to sit or how do you still have a super rad and elegant party? This is where we love to suggest a kids table! Don’t worry – we always make sure it goes with the vibe of the wedding. If it’s an afternoon brunch wedding, totally fine with keeping it casual. If it’s a romantic evening affair, keep the kids table simple. Regardless, it’s a great way for the little ones to stay entertained, have their own amazingly creative conversations and let the grown ups do their thing. The kids will feel cool and important and the adults can enjoy their cocktails and fine china without worrying about sticky fingers and sippy cups getting in the way. We’ve been there, done that so trust us on this one! A kids table not only keeps the little ones together, but keeps any disruptions contained in one area and out of sight-out of mind for you!

We know family is important so this dilemma is never easy – but keep in mind, there is always a solution! And at the end of the day, you’re the one planning this party after all so do what YOU feel is best!
