MODERN, DESERT OPULENCE IN PALM SPRINGS AT SUNSET PALMS ESTATE

a brand new Kathy Ireland estate reminiscent of Elizabeth Taylor and her days as Cleopatra, I knew I had to see it to believe it. Inspired by old Hollywood glamour and commonly referred to as “The Jewel of the Desert”, This private luxury estate was so breathtaking that we knew we had to share it with you! After seeing the property, we knew that we wanted to embody the Golden Age of Hollywood. We titled our style “Modern, Desert Opulence” and drew inspiration from images of Elizabeth Taylor, specifically from her wedding to Husband #5, Richard Burton.

For the more traditional bridal look, she wore a stunning, beaded gown from One Night Affair that showcased a less traditional veil: Tulle fastened with vintage brooches that was both classic and contemporary. Luna of Arrangements Design designed all the florals and incorporated airplants, greenery, and florals inspired by our estate. Incorporating whites, greens, and ambers, with pops of gold and pink, all of these stunning florals worked together to create a tablescape and a bridal bouquet that were glamorous, classic, and feminine.
We used Dishwish Girl’s incredible dish ware and antique gold flatware. We were inspired by the idea of a Modern Cleopatra and chose china that evoked that notion: gorgeous china with pops of black and gold, reminiscent of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
True to the 60s, we were moved by the color palette of the desert sky, the pop art, and the overabundant, ever tall palms that are a Palm Springs signature. Shot by the amazing Josh Newton, we worked together to evoke this period in Hollywood history. We incorporated vintage perfume bottles and eclectic, gold objects, reminiscent of what one might find at Elizabeth Taylor’s vanity on any given day.

The bride had her hair and make up done by the ever talented Jen of Jen Plus Colour and showcased two drastically different looks. In keeping with our setting, our bride wore an incredible gold palette, vintage dress from The Way We Wore that couldn’t have been more perfect. It was both sexy and sophisticated all at once.

Still stuck, maybe this will help? Do you maybe have a bunch the groomsmen that have been best buds forever and are still kids at heart? How about a bromance boutonniere?! A fun way for the boys to go out with a bang. Maybe a love for the game, music, or super heros? Come on, what guys wouldn’t want to be a superhero for the day! Do they maybe have nicknames for each other or some kind of secret language? I know just the thing!

Don’t worry ladies I didn’t forget about you, this is your time to shine and show your true self as well! How about being effortlessly beautiful with a single flower? Or go all out with the glitz and the glam with a vintage flare? No matter what you choose it’s your wedding day, so show everyone who you truly are!

Now remember, just like the knights and their princesses, it’s not only the little things that count, but the journey and experiences that make up the moments along way. So, have fun when choosing your boutonnieres and bouquets, and decide if you want to go traditional, modern or a nice blend of the two! XO

Music to Our Ears: Standout Song Picks!

Music is what feelings sound like, so you want to be sure to bring about the right emotional reaction from your guests. Talk to your DJ or band about their experiences with emotional reaction based on different kinds of music. A musician with experience will always have great ideas for you! We loved our bride and bridal party that walked down the aisle to “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers, and it was wonderful. The groomsmen held signs “Ho,” “Hey,” and “!!” while the bridesmaids carried tambourines in lieu of bouquets. The guests sang along, filling the air with joy rather than seriousness.

Now that’s our kind of wedding. We’re inspired to inspire you, so here’s some of our picks for the best Processional, Recessional, and First Dance songs that will tie any wedding together!
Top Processional Picks

//Forged in the North Photography//

Depending on your wedding theme, your processional music can go in many different directions. A light-hearted, rustic wedding could use songs like “Ho Hey,” but most brides opt to go for slower music. The softer melodies may feel like they’re slowing down time as the couple locks eyes across the aisle. Keep each moment of your procession in mind when choosing music, from the maids to the kids to you.

Congratulations! You’re a married couple! Now it’s time to celebrate, with something cheerful, upbeat, and very YOU. We like to think of it like the end of a good rom-com; it should feel like a spirited conclusion. (Note that some of these songs will also work great for the grand entrance to your reception, for you or your bridal party.)
Top First Dance Picks

//onelove photography//

It’s time for the long-awaited first dance, where your guests may admire you while you awkwardly sway back and forth… but it doesn’t have to be awkward! Though you will be the center of attention, this is great opportunity to forget about everything around you and get lost in the moment as newlyweds. Most couples hear “first dance” and think [insert our song here], but a lot of couples don’t have one specific song dedicated to their love or don’t feel that their song fits. Picking a song you love doesn’t mean it has to be “your song” – but simply a song you love right now. Step outside of the conventional juke box and really make your song choices personal – and unique!
