When we thought wedding videographer, we thought 90’s fab: guy with a giant camera roaming around the dance floor. We quickly came to find that we were totally off in our assumption. In the past few years wedding videographers have really changed with the scene. Almost every wedding I have been to since ours I have drooled over the wedding videographer. It’s exactly what we thought it wasn’t. They are discreet but everywhere capturing those intimate moments that you want to replay over and over again for the rest of your life. If I were to do it again my current vendor of choice would be Lunch Pail Pictures.
This video gets me every time:

While a wedding videographer is ideal and should be a must for every wedding, I understand budget constraints. There are a few budget friendly options, which I have outlined below.
My first recommendation would be college students from a local art or media arts program. Students are eager to learn and love to be presented with new opportunities. Not only would they shoot your wedding for a limited budget — something as simple as a plate of food and a beer – you know how hungry college kids are — but they would likely also edit multiple video options.

Another budget friendly option would be to gift the bridal party with Flip cams (or other HD video recorders). Not only would this take care of bridal gifts but it would allow for constant day of video. Upon gifting ask the bridal party to film moments throughout the day.

Currently my favorite option is relying on your guests and the hashtag. The wedding hashtag has changed the landscape and has allowed for the guest to document everything! Use dedicated signage to encourage guests to take videos throughout the day. Provide a hashtag so they can share the moments they have captured through many places like Instagram, Twitter, Vine, and Facebook.

What I have come to realize almost four years after my wedding is that I would give almost anything to sit down and watch a video like the one above. Our one piece of wedding advice to our newly engaged friends is: hire a wedding videographer!
